Natural Stress and Anxiety Relief - by Jennifer Kays

Natural Stress and Anxiety Relief - by Jennifer Kays: "All of us experience stress and anxiety in our lives. We are all familiar with the sources of stress and anxiety. They include financial concerns, work deadlines, providing for our children, countless tasks to do and errands to run, heavy traffic, relationships with co-workers, family relationships, and the list goes on. The irony is that the responses of our physical bodies that are designed to protect us can turn against us when stress and anxiety is without relief or prolonged.

Under stress, our heart rate and blood pressure increase to provide our brains with more blood flow for oxygen and nutrients. Our blood sugar increases to provide us with more energy as we would need in a crisis. Our blood is routed away from our intestines in order to provide energy for the large muscles in our arms and legs for fight or flight. If the source of our stress and anxiety subsides after a brief period of time, our bodies return these functions to their normal process. If the source of our stress and anxiety remains constant then our physical responses become harmful to our health. We begin to experience insomnia, joint and muscle inflammation and pain, fatigue, hypertension, perhaps heart constriction, indigestion, higher cholesterol levels, impotence, either lack of or excess appetite resulting in weight loss or weight gain, weakened immune system"

How To Safely Lose Weight And Still Keep Your Sanity - by Bryan Pringle, Ph.D.

How To Safely Lose Weight And Still Keep Your Sanity - by Bryan Pringle, Ph.D.: "In the United States, it is estimated that 97.1 million, or approximately 35% of adults, are overweight. More than 60% of Americans over the age of twenty are overweight. About one quarter, or 1 in 4 American adults are considered to be obese. It is also estimated, that over half of the population of adults in the United States, go on a weight loss diet each year. Additionally, according to the World Health Report, published in 2003, about 1 billion adults worldwide are overweight. Obesity is becoming a worldwide epidemic. So how can one go about losing weight safely, while keeping one's sanity?

The first and most important tool in losing weight, is to eat less. It sounds simply enough, however, most obese and overweight individuals just simply eat too much. The key to eating less, is not to eat until your stomach feels full, but to eat only enough calories to sustain a healthy lifestyle. For moderate daily activity, the average adult female only needs about 2000 calories per day, while the average adult male needs about 2500-2800 calories per day. For children and toddlers, the estimated average requirement is anywhere from 1000 to 1900 calories per day."

Conduct Disorder (CD) - by Anthony Kane MD

Conduct Disorder (CD) - by Anthony Kane MD: "Most parents of Oppositional Defiant Disorder children feel that things can't get much worse. Well, in the event you ever felt that way I am about to put things in perspective for you. We are now going to discuss Conduct Disorder.

Conduct Disorder is the most serious of all disruptive behavior disorders in children and teens. This difficult condition affects between 1 to 4 percent of children and adolescents, is more common in boys than in girls, and occurs more frequently in cities than in rural areas. There are chidren who show signs of Conduct Disorder very early in life, even before they begin to go to school.

Conduct Disorder often is viewed as a worse version of ODD, however there are some differences. Oppositional Defiant Disorder children tend to have worse social skills than children with Conduct Disorder. Also, Oppositional Defiant Disorder children may be obnoxious and hard to deal with, but they usually do not try to intentionally cause harm to other people. Their difficult behavior is more of a result of their frustration and their lack of tolerance."

New Health Care Trends Involve Environmental Endocrinology - by Kristin Gabriel

New Health Care Trends Involve Environmental Endocrinology - by Kristin Gabriel: "Researchers, scientists and doctors are discovering the importance of the newest emerging field called environmental endocrinology. Doctors are now learning how environmental endocrinology, or the effect of daily stressors like light, food and crowding on multiple endocrine systems'controls the rate of aging and the quality of life.

Envronmental endocrinology has roots in the earliest calendars, which historically were lunar calendars, based on the time interval from one new moon to the next, or also known as lunation. Colder climates mandated that a year was determined by the end of winter. But in warmer countries, where the seasons are less pronounced, the Moon became the basic unit for time.

Calendar consciousness first developed in women because their natural body rhythms corresponded to observations of the moon, and as it turns out, 28 days is not the true average of the natural female cycle. In ancient mythologies it is clearly related to the full moon, but in the modern world the female cycle is disturbed by what some researchers believe to be the existence of artificial lights and the use of artificial hormones. Many light sources including TV and computer screens, have probably perturbed the female cycle, and shortened it."

Grasping Panic Attacks - by Kevin Reilly

Grasping Panic Attacks - by Kevin Reilly: "After a panic attack has occurred, many times a visit to the emergency room follows to ensure that a heart attack, stroke, or some other serious ailment has not just happened. After every test possible, the doctor comes up with a diagnosis. He tells you that all of your tests have come back negative and what you are experiencing is normal and harmless. He explains that you are experiencing panic attacks. The doctor prescribes medicine, a follow up checkup with your general practitioner, and then sends you on your way. As the doctor is explaining this, thoughts are racing through your mind. How can this be normal and harmless? The doctor just cannot be right. He has to be missing something. After leaving the hospital and feeling as if the doctor has completely misdiagnosed your situation, you have decided to take it upon yourself to grasp what this new diagnosis means."

Scrappy Street Fighter or Gracious Queen: Women Need a Balance of Power - by Dr. Karen Otazo

Scrappy Street Fighter or Gracious Queen: Women Need a Balance of Power - by Dr. Karen Otazo: "At a recent Washington fund –raiser, a former female CEO arrived in a dazzling designer suit while a female senator was dressed in the business attire stated on the invitation. Why is it that many women have to be the “smartest” in the room whether in clothes or comments? Very smart women abound. They achieve so much and often get recognized for their achievement. Many of us have asked why there aren’t more women in leadership positions in organizations of all kinds.

Women are often walking a tightrope in how they are perceived in leadership positions. Learning balance is a key for us as well as men, but women really need to be aware of everything they say and do. We are more noticeable and often fewer in number. Our secret weapon is preparation and forethought. The art of preparing for everything that is public in any way, a meeting, report or conference is what we need. We need to be thinking about the balance of power in asking, telling, giving and taking everything we do or have done."

Fun ways to play with Photoshop - by David Peters

Fun ways to play with Photoshop - by David Peters: "There are some pretty cool things you can do with Photoshop that can changed your view of text for a while. One interesting one is having some normal text and adding a few shades to make it fun and more interesting. It is in two easy steps: 1. First, create an image about 300 x 100 pixels, and 72 pixels/inch. Select a foreground color of #CACACA, and fill the image, to make the background this color. When you've filled the background, then select your text tool, and add the text you want to add, make the color of the text close to #3F3F3F A darker grey. 2. OK, now we can add the shadow. It is as easy as adding a layer effect and can come in very useful for other things too. Go to Blending Options (Right-click on text layer). You will get a menu with structure, elements and quality. In the structure menu you would select 100% opacity, 0% noise, and the solid not gradient option. For the elements you would want the technique to be softer, the spread 2% and the size 8pixels. For quality you want 55% range and 0% jitter. You can always play around a little with these, if it does not suit. (The color used for the shadow is #8A8A8A) So once you have that, just click OK, and you should get your final result. It's as easy as that!"

Using Reason Is The Way To Have Complete Faith - by Enoch Tan

Using Reason Is The Way To Have Complete Faith - by Enoch Tan: "Some have the idea that faith and reason are in conflict with each other. They think that if you have reason, you don't need faith, and if you go by faith, you cannot go by reasoning. It is this paradox that has caused the biggest problems in all religion and spirituality. The truth is that faith and reason are one and the same. In order to have faith about something, you need to know it as true. You can't know something as true unless you have a reason for it to be so. Faith is reason and reason is faith.

All truths are ideas. If you knew everything there is to know about an idea, you would no longer need to 'have faith' in it. You just know it as reality. Faith is knowing. To know a thing is to be aware of it. It is all about awareness, the more you have it, the more faith you have. If you want to fully know something, you have to understand everything there is to understand about it. You have to be able to explain everything about it. The more reasons you discover, the more truth you realize."
